This is the fundraising / sponsorship page for three Cambridge University medics (Jack, Nick and Lorcan) as we try scramble our way back to Cambridge in the LOST Charity event of 2017.
In a nutshell, LOST is a charity event where we'll be dropped off in a mystery location somewhere in the UK and have 24 hours to race back to Cambridge. The catch? We can’t spend any of our own money – teams have to rely on the generosity of strangers to receive donations or free rides on the day. We can try use planes, trains or automobiles – previous teams have sweet-talked bus drivers, busked to raise money for train tickets, or hitchhiked their way back home. And, as with any good charity event, everyone will be wearing fancy dress - this year it's space themed, any idea what us three will be going as from the page??
On the way back to Cambridge, we will have to complete as many challenges as possible, which are given on the day and which range from making your own sandwich at Subway to blagging a ride in a helicopter to getting a selfie with an A-list celebrity. Points earned from completing challenges are vitally important for the Varsity aspect of the event - we are competing against Oxford to get as many points as possible!
Even though it is largely surrounded by trivial challenges and 24 or so hours of chaos, this event does have an important and serious aim of raising as much money as possible for 10 diverse charities.
This list of 10 charities you are supporting (which can be found here http://www.cambridgerag.org.uk/charities/ in its entirety) contains some local to Cambridge (including Jimmy's Cambridge who providing emergency accommodation to the homeless, and the Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre), but also national (namely YoungMinds and beat. eating disorders) and international (including Action Against Hunger and Against Malaria Foundation) charities.
All of these charities are greatly influential and have a profoundly important impact. They were picked, largely by students, for their great work.
Any donations you make via this page through sponsorship (or through in-person donations) will be going straight to these charities, and so evidently you will be helping a wide array of people - you have a chance to make a hugely positive difference.
Any donations of any size are massively appreciated and will certainly go far.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
